American Underwater Products at Dive and Travel Expo, Tacoma
American Underwater Products exhibited at the Dive and Travel Expo in Tacoma, Washington on April 8-10. The 4th annual expo was held at the Greater Tacoma Convention & Trade Center. The host hotel was the Hotel Murano. Exhibiting at the four AUP booths were Oceanic, Aeris, Hollis, Lavacore and Ocean Pro. Jon Hayes, Oceanic Northwest Territory Manager and Michael Hooley, Hollis Northwest Regional Manager were on hand at the booth to meet with local Dealers and the Divers of the Pacific Northwest. Special thanks to Nate Holcom (Astoria Scuba and Adventure Sports) and Gene Brunn and Marja (Undersea Adventures) for helping with the booth set up and break down.
The Dive and Travel Expo is in its fourth year and had over 200 exhibitors in the exhibit hall, with close to 300 booths. According to Show Manager Rick Stratton, the Expo drew in about 5,500 attendees! The weekend expo included Trade-Only events on Friday, including an exhibitor reception. A Saturday dinner and film festival was the talk of the day and on Sunday a treasure hunt went off without a hitch. There were over fifty (50) free seminars, workshops and lectures on Saturday and Sunday in addition to a photo contest being held during the show. The photo contest handed out over $10,000 in prizes and a total of $100,000 in cash and prizes were given away over the weekend.
Dive Industry Business Seminar: A special two hour business seminar was held on Friday, April 8 at the Dive and Travel Expo for eighty (80) Industry Professionals. The theme of this year’s seminar was “Using 21st Century Tools To Make Your Business More Successful.” A good mix of businesses from the manufacturing, travel, retail and media sectors were present. A number of AUP Authorized Dealers attended the Seminar. The catered luncheon was sponsored by Constant Contact, Oceanic and Surf Expo.
Keynote speaker was Dana Pethia, Regional Development Director from Constant Contact. Other speakers were: Rick Stratton, Dive News Network; Gene Muchanski, Dive Industry Association; Richard Woulfe, Rich Travels; and Francey Marzicola, from Body Glove. Rick Stratton and Gene Muchanski are working on next year’s Trade-Only Day & Business Seminars. Sponsorship for a catered luncheon for 200 planned attendees is open.
